Report 1 -- Report 2 -- Report 3 -- Report 4 -- Report 5

I mentioned earlier that most of the interesting new things here at the show were from China.  Here are more examples of those items. KARP, who always has interesting material, had a nice array of inesite from the Fengjiashan Mine (Daye Copper mine), Daye, Hubei province, China.  This mine has been closed now for a while so this is one of those instances where something was common for a while but won't be in the near future.  I picked up a fair group of these for the web.  French dealer Rene Daulon always has fine and interesting specimens from China.  This year was no exception.  I made selections of specimens from Fujian and Yaogangxian as well as a few others of new topaz from Tongbei.  Francois Lietard had one specimen of emerald from a new locality in China.  I forgot to get the exact locality but will get it shortly from him.  One thing that had a lot of people talking were the abundant lustrous and gemmy specimens of light green fluorite.  I passed on these for now since all that I saw had the heavy feel and smell of oil.  The prehnite and babbingtonite that were seen in Denver were also here in abundance.  I did not bother to get any of these. I have already shown the helvite specimens from Fujian in an earlier report . So China is where much of the new things entering the market are coming from.  The following are images from items that I did obtain.

This is a 4 cm specimen with pink inesite on quartz with some micro apophyllite.

A 1.5 cm emerald crystal from Xinjiang Province, China (The exact locality will
be provided for the person who buys the specimen) from Francois Lietard.

A group of frosted quartz crystals with gemmy topaz crystals from Baoshan, Yunnan Province.

A 6 cm specimen of rounded pyrite on equally rounded fluorite from Wuzhou, Guanxi, China.

A 4 cm specimen of muscovite coated with scattered spessartine crystals from Fujian.

A 4 cm specimen of spessartine and fluorite from Fujian.

KARP also had new specimens of cyclically twinned crystals of phenakite from Burma.  These are not new to the world having been seen over a year ago at Ste Marie but the prices have moderated a lot so I picked some up.  They also had a new find of fluorite from Bujiger, Mongolia.  They are a light lime to olive green in color and not all that flashy but they are from a new locality.

A 5cm specimen of the new fluorite from Mongolia.

KARP also had this specimen of Burmese tourmaline on matrix that I could not
leave on the table.  Matrix specimens of this material are quite rare.

Christian Rewitzer had a good supply of the rare mineral nagyagite from Nagyag, Romania.  This is an ancient locality but seeing so many specimens from this locality was quite surprising. I picked out about a half dozen.  Below is one from the group.

This 6.5 cm specimen has drusy rhodochrosite on quartz with a group of well crystallized nagyagite
crystals at the top. Other unidentified species are associated with the nagyagite also.

German dealer Fachhandel and Versand had scores of fluorite specimens from German localities and also the best silver specimens from Pohla mine of anyone at the show.  The silver is etched from the encasing arsenic to reveal stunning herring bone habit crystal groups.

This is one of the specimens with a close up to display the crystalline details.

One more report on the displays at the show and a final word on the show in the last report.
