Report 1 -- Report 2 -- Report 3 -- Report 4 -- Report 5

I have been in Munich for a few days now - time enough to recover from the 9 hour time change. No easy way to get through jet lag except to just get through it.

Today was set up day for most of the dealers.  It is a real choreographic effort to get three large halls filled with minerals and displays in a 24 hour period. The shots below reflect the enormous efforts made by the hundreds of dealers here.

A scene from Hall A4

While in Hall A4 I came upon Hunan Bafang Mineral Shop setting up with some very interesting material from China.   There was a new find of Barite from Gan Zhou, Jiangxi, China. These have a brilliant luster and steeply shaped habit.  They also had some of the plumbogummite on mimetite specimens that were first seen at the Sainte Marie show this past summer from the Yangshuo Pb-Zn deposit, Yangshuo, Guangxi Zhuang, China.  The colors of these ranged from light to deep blue.  I am glad I stopped by as later in the afternoon they were all gone.

A scene in Hall A5 in front of Luis Miguel's booth

Luis had an attractive array of new barite specimens from Cerro Warihuyn, Mir Aflores Huamlalias, Huanuco, Peru.  They attracted a lot of attention by dealers as soon as they were placed on the table for view and quite a few were scooped up.  I managed to get my hands on seven choice specimens from this find.

Here are two of the specimens I obtained - brilliant luster and clarity distinguish these specimens.

Another scene in Hall A5 of Christian Rewitzer unloading a van.

This is the International Pavilion where some of the world's leading dealers were setting up.

This is the other half of the Crystal Classics/Kristalle booth.
Again, Desmond Sacco on the left and Ian Bruce in the center.

Ian had a large selection of the Marty Zinn collection on hand including this array of fine stalactites of varying compositions. This collection was on display a few years ago here in Munich. This may well be the last opportunity to see it all in one place again..

Francois Lietard had some exceptional Afghan specimens on hand including this gorgeous specimen with kunzite
and morganite crystals from Kunar.  Price is 8600 Euros or about $10,500 with the current exchange rate.

This is a very fine tourmaline on quartz Francois had also from Kunar.
Price is 11,000 Euros or about $13,300 with the current exchange rate.

Also available from Francois were some exceptional specimen of the chondrodite from Afghanistan that were
first seen at the East Coast Show from Dudley Blauwet.  These were better and more price friendly even with
the exchange rate.  There were many fine specimens on matrix also. Prices are in Euros.

This is a scene in Hall A4 at the Bier Garten. Nice place to end the first day.

More in the next days from Munich!
