This is an abbreviated report on the West Coast Show that was held this past weekend in Costa Mesa.  Very little of anything to report as new to the mineral world - actually nothing was really new except for the display of a portion of Marty Zinn's collection which was recently purchased by an unusual group of dealers: Ian Bruce (Crystal Classics), Wayne & Dona Leicht (Kristalle) and Bryan Lees (The Collector's Edge).  They will be handling the collection collectively. Here at the Show Wayne & Dona had a case of some of Marty's old pieces available.  The vast majority of the collection is still being worked up for future distribution - most likely at the Denver Show in September.

I asked Marty, who has been collecting minerals for over 40 years, the simple question:  Why? He said: "why not?".
He explained that for him the thrill is in the hunt of finding good minerals and he was not anxious to see what happens to most mineral collections when the owner moves on.  Clearly, Marty's stuff was the talk of the show.  Below are presented several images of what was available in Kristalle's booth at the Show. I have tried to capture the prices being asked for the specimens for your benefit where I could.  But first, a shot of Marty who's looking quite robust in this photo below.

This is a portion of the case.

The elusive blue cap tourmaline from Pala.

A much bluer in person blue specimen of fluorite from Illinois.

A fine specimen of malachite included hemimorphite from the Ojuela mine.

Rhodochrosite from Germany.

A fine tourmaline from Burma.

I hunted around the show looking for interesting specimens from various localities and focused my attention on minerals from Mexico.  Hence, most of the minerals are from there though I will post about 40 specimens from other global locations.

The next big show for me will be the Denver Show.  I have taken the Sainte Marie show off of my schedule.  The official word is that that show is moving to Colmar in 2006 which is located in the Rhine valley east of Sainte Marie...  I really liked that show a lot and will miss my annual trip to France.  C'est la vie.
