November 1
It is a national holiday here today in Germany. All Saints day is held in the same regard as Christmas is here. I have been in Munich for a few days already and have taken the chance to visit some of the sites in this beautiful city. One of the great featues of Munich is the ability to get around with out the use of a car. In the 10 years I have been coming here I have never had the need to rent a car. All you need is the fabulous public transportation and a good set of soles on the bottom of your shoes and the city is yours to explore. In years past I have seen the sites everyone visits such as Marian Platz, the Deutches Museums and such which are all worthy of a trip here alone. However, this trip I have spent a lot of time visiting the vast array of parks and open spaces which are drenched in fall colors this year. The largest park is referred to as the English Garden park and it extends for quite a distance and covers about 3.7 square kilometers. The term English Garden is used in reference to the style of informal landscaping popular in 19th century England. There are numerous brooks, ponds and small lakes found in the garden and many kilometers of trails to allow enjoyment of the settings. The following are images taken in the
Garden in places less visited.
Later this morning I will be on my way to show area as it is the start of set up. The next two days will be devoted to tracking down what is new in the mineral world in Munich. More to come. |
