Uranium Minerals

As always look out for interesting specimens containing uranium while attending shows. At Munich this time I found Gilbert Gauthier with some nice specimens of cuprosklodowskite, torbernite and one of the finest becquerelite specimens I have ever taken posession of.   The cuprosklodowskite was a very pleasant surprise also as the quality was exceptional! Keep in mind that these specimens are naturally radioactive and can cause problems if not handled and stored properly.  Also, they can create some interesting moments when re-entering the country and going through customs...

MSU-01 - $825.00
Becquerelite, Studtite and Uranophane on Uraninite
Shinkolobwe
Katanga
Democratic Republic of the Congo
7 x 5 x 2.1 cm

Fabulous specimen of this rare calcium uranium hydroxide.  Literally hundreds of blade-like crystals of becquerelite to 4 mm are found across the surface of this specimen.  Also present are tufts of studtite - a hydrous uranium oxide.  This is one of those specimens that I could have taken a hundred pictures of - so many interesting nooks on this specimen!

Torbernite & Heterogenite
Musonoi Extension
Katanga
Democratic Republic of the Congo
7 x 4 x 2.5 cm

Sharply crystallized specimen of torbernite with a light coating of goethite over some of the crystals.  The matrix consists of banded malachite.  The largest of the torbernite crystals measures 0.8 cm across.  Looks a lot like dark green wulfenite eh?

Cuprosklodowskite
Musonoi Extension
Katanga
Democratic Republic of the Congo
5 x 3 x 2.5 cm

Specimen with a very rich section of intergrown and tightly packed, bladed cuprosklodowskite crystals.  The largest crystals are 1 cm or so in length.

MSU-05 - $175.00
Cuprosklodowskite, Torbernite and Kasolite
Musonoi Extension
Katanga
Democratic Republic of the Congo
6.5 x 6 x 3.5 cm

Very attractive specimen with radial sprays of thick cuprosklodowskite crystals to over 1 cm across.  Also present are small yellow crystals of kasolite, quite a few scattered tabular crystals of torbernite and a few scattered very small dipyramidal crystals of dark orangish red wulfenite.  The matrix is predominantly malachite.
