French Alpine Pink Fluorite

This past June, just before the Sainte Marie aux Mines Show,  I set out to find as many Chamonix fluorite specimens as I could while I was in Chamonix.  That proved totally fruitless as the season for finding the fluorite specimens happens towards the end of the summer season when the snow has melted enough to expose the various locations where the fluorite specimens are found.  This time in Europe I thought I might have a better chance to land some more of these specimens since it would be after the 2001 Chamonix Mineral Show.  Well this year the snow never really melted off the outcrops and collectors were forced to dig into the snow/ice to expose them.  There was only a small amount of success this year in locating specimens and this represents about the best of what was available at the 2001 Munich Show.  Believe me I looked all over the place.  To my fortune, French dealer Eddie Bosonetto had contacted me prior to the show and we arranged to meet so I could make selections.  I also found an Italian dealer, Chinale, who had specimens available also.

SOLD OUT
Also, I have obtained 2 copies of the special Chamonix issue produced by le Regne Mineral.  This publication is the French equivalent of the Mineralogical Record.  It is written entirely in French but contains many superior pictures of specimens and the mountains where the specimens come from.  There are also a number of maps - both geological and geographical that are decipherable in any language.  These are $20.00 plus $5 s/h for domestic or $7.50 for s/h for foreign requests.  Only 2 copies of this special issue are available!

Scattered light pink, octahedral crystals of fluorite are clustered on a water clear smoky quartz crystal.  The largest fluorite crystal is 0.5 cm across.  The smoky has an indentation due to growth next to an adjacent crystal and has only a very small ding at the very tip of the termination.

4.2 x 2.7 x 1.6 cm

1.5 cm complexly crystallized mass of pink fluorite rests on a, believe it or not, doubly terminated smoky quartz crystal!  The surface of the quartz is etched and irregularly developed.  All of the faces are there however.

John@TrinityMinerals.com

PF-05

1.8 cm cluster of sharp octahedral crystals of pink fluorite are perched on the edge of a lustrous partial smoky quartz crystal.

Fluorite
Argentiere Massif
Mont Blanc, Chamonix
France
2.8 x 2.5 x 2.5 cm

Octahedral crystal of reddish pink fluorite with small attached crystals of adularia and smoky quartz.  No damage to this specimen.

PF-08 - $35.00
Fluorite
Argentiere Massif
Mont Blanc, Chamonix
France
1.7 x 1.6 x 1 cm

Crystal of octahedral fluorite.  The indentation at the base of the crystal indicates that it grew on a quartz crystal... Too bad that it is still not there.

John@TrinityMinerals.com

PF-09
Fluorite on Smoky Quartz
Argentiere Massif
Mont Blanc, Chamonix
France
2.5 x 1.8 x 1.4 cm

Very fine thumbnail specimen of a cluster of rose pink octahedral fluorite crystals perched on adularia matrix.  The largest crystal is 1 cm across.  No damage to any of the crystals.

John@TrinityMinerals.com

PF-10 - $125.00
Fluorite & Smoky Quartz
Argentiere Massif
Mont Blanc, Chamonix
France
2.5 x 1.8 x 1.4 cm

Reddish pink crystal of octahedral fluorite with  a small stack of smoky quartz crystals coming out of the side.  Though flattened in appearance this specimen is a floater!  The underside of the crystal is comprised of myriad small octahedral faces as it appears that it grew on a chlorite rich matrix as there are remnant grains of chlorite attached to the base of the crystal.  The soft matrix allowed for crystal development but not at the same rate as the rest of the specimen.

PF-11 - $225.00
Fluorite
Argentiere Massif
Mont Blanc, Chamonix
France
5.4 x 3.6 x 2 cm

Specimen of deep reddish pink octahedral fluorite - almost red it is so dark - crystals that were once on the side of a quartz crystal as indicated by the cast.  The largest of these undamaged crystals is about 1.4 cm across.

John@TrinityMinerals.com

PF-12 - $200.00
Fluorite on Smoky Quartz
Argentiere Massif
Mont Blanc, Chamonix
France
5.5 x 3.5 x 2.7 cm

Over a dozen lightly etched pink octahedral crystals of fluorite are set on a deeply etched and recrystallized smoky quartz crystal.  This specimen is a complete floater without any contact point.  The close up photo at the bottom shows the numerous micro crystal faces comprising the quartz.  The largest fluorite crystal is 1.7 cm across.  Again, no damage!

PF-13 - $250.00
Fluorite on Smoky Quartz (Gwindel Crystal)
Argentiere Massif
Mont Blanc, Chamonix
France
6.8 x 4.7 x 4 cm

3cm Gwindel Quartz Crystal

Specimen of smoky quartz crystals seemingly bound together with pink fluorite.  The fluorite has been etched but is not damaged.  The base of the specimens displays octahedral crystals to 1.3 cm across.  One of the quartz crystals is a 3 cm gwindel twin.  The large crystal is water clear and has only a small nick at the top of the termination.  One of the more interesting specimens from this group!

PF-14 - $225.00
Fluorite
Argentiere Massif
Mont Blanc, Chamonix
France
3.2 x 3.1 x 2.5 cm

Rather large and well formed octahedral crystal of rich rose pink fluorite.  This crystal has atypically good luster and clarity!  Also present are phantoms.  This is a very fine small miniature sized crystal of fluorite from this classic location!

PF-15 - $950.00
Fluorite on Smoky Quartz
Argentiere Massif
Mont Blanc, Chamonix

9.1 x 7.2 x 5 cm

I had a hard time stopping when it came to photographing this exceptional specimen.  This is a very large, perfectly terminated and water clear smoky quartz crystal with a generous coating of bright rose pink crystals of fluorite.  The quartz crystal is undamaged but does have some indentations where it grew next to other quartz crystals.  The largest fluorite crystal is 0.8 cm across.  Easily the finest combo specimen available from the 2001 mining season!
