Spanish Sphalerites

My very first hour at the show I saw where Jordi Fabre was set up in hall B2.  He had some nice minerals as always but aslo he had some new finds of the famous gem sphalerite from Aliva, Cantabria, Spain.  These are typically found on milky white dolomite matrix. I found four specimens of exceptional quality and moved on.

EU-02 - $95.00
Sphalerite
Aliva, Picos de Europa
Cantabria, Spain
4.8 x 4 x 3.5 cm

Mostly complete complex and gemmy 3 cm crystal of sphalerite perched on milky white dolomite.  The crystal has been lightly etched in some locations to produce a matted luster.  When back lit however, the gem nature of the crystal is readily evident.  The back side of the crystal has contact impressions where it grew against an adjacent crystal. No damage.

Very gemmy complex 2.1 cm crystal of sphalerite perched on milky white dolomite.  The crystal has been lightly etched in some locations to produce a matted luster.  When back lit however, the gem nature of the crystal is readily evident.  There is no damage to this specimen.
