Namibian Schorls and Smoky Quartz

In Hall B2 Erich Schmidt of Minerals & Rough Stones had specimens of schorl with and without smoky quartz available.  There were well over 200 specimens on display so I had the chance to make high quality selections.  Black rocks do not usually excite me too much but these were rather striking and very reasonably priced.

SCH-01 - $40.00
Schorl
Erongo Mountains
Tibussi
Nambia
3.5 x 3.4 x 2.6 cm

Cluster of sharp and fully terminated crystals of schorl.  The largest crystal in the group is 2.3 cm in length and is doubly terminated.  It is the crystal pointed to the upper left in the lower right hand photo.

SCH-02 - $95.00
Schorl & Smoky Quartz
Erongo Mountains
Tibussi
Nambia
5.8 x 3.1 x 3 cm

Fully terminated and lustrous crystal of schorl is attached to three smoky quartz crystals.  The largest of the smokys is 4.6 cm in length.  The color of these smoky quartz crystals is a very pleasing brown color.

SCH-03
Schorl & Smoky Quartz
Erongo Mountains
Tibussi
Nambia
8.2 x 5 x 3.5 cm

Fully terminated and lustrous crystal of schorl is attached to an 8 cm long smoky quartz crystal.  The quartz has a somewhat mottled surface due to some level of corrosion.  It is not damaged.

SCH-04 - $100.00
Schorl
Erongo Mountains
Tibussi
Nambia
8.7 x 5 x 4.3 cm

Large, fully and sharply terminated crystal of schorl.  The classic "Mercedes Benz" triangle is visible when viewing the crystal from above.  One of the prism faces has a scattering of smaller schorl crystals which grew on it. No damage to the termination.

SCH-05 - $125.00
Schorl & Smoky Quartz
Erongo Mountains
Tibussi
Nambia
6.3 x 3.5 x 3.4 cm

Attractive group of mirror lustrous schorl crystals (mostly doubly terminated) with a 2.3 cm smoky quartz crystal.  This was one of the better quality specimens available from Schmidt as the schorls are very lustrous and the doubly terminated crystals were uncommon in the lot that he had at Munich.

SCH-06
Schorl
Erongo Mountains
Tibussi
Nambia
7.4 x 4.7 x 4.7 cm

Large, fully and sharply terminated crystal of schorl.  There is a smaller crystal near the base that is also fully terminated. The classic "Mercedes Benz" triangle is visible when viewing the crystal from above.  No damage to this specimen.

SCH-07 - $60.00
Schorl
Erongo Mountains
Tibussi
Nambia
4.3 x 2.7 x 2.3 cm

Cluster of two fully and sharply terminated crystals of schorl.  The largest of the two is 3.5 cm in length and it is doubly terminated.   No damage to this specimen. Sorry for my finger print on the crystal.  I will remove it if it gets sold...

SCH-08
Schorl
Erongo Mountains
Tibussi
Nambia
7.2 x 3.3 x 3.2 cm

Large, fully and sharply terminated crystal of schorl.  There is a smaller crystal near the base that is also fully terminated. The classic "Mercedes Benz" triangle is visible when viewing the crystal from above.  There is a small scrape along the prism as seen in the top photo.  The crystal has a partial termination at the base indicating that it is a doubly terminated crystal.
