Various East Coast Show Specimens - The specimens with this link are a rand group of interesting pieces found at the show - all are choice select specimens.

Faden Adularia
August 20th
Faden Adularia - Dudley Blauwet had an unusual group of adularia specimens - Fadens from Alchuri, Pakistan! This sort of habit has been seen for some time now in quartz but this is a first for me at least.

Acicular Bultfonteinite
August 20th
Acicular Bultfonteinite & Poldervaartite - Rocko Minerals had a couple of flats of the new find of acicular bultfonteinite with poldervaartite from the N'Chwaning Mine in South Africa.  This sort of habit has been seen before but in nothing resembling this quantity or quality!  The typical habit for bultfonteinite is massive and beige - much like smithsonite from Choix, Mexico has.  These acicular specimens are quite attractive especially with the poldervaartite association.

Caracolite

Scorodite / Mansfieldite
August 20th
Rare Chilean Minerals - Terry Szenics and Alfredo Petrov had there usual array of interesting and rare minerals from Chile at the show. This year they both had excellent specimens of the exceedingly rare lead bearing mineral caracolite. This new find is an order of magnitude better than any previously known specimens of the mineral.  The chemical formula for caracolite is: Na3Pb2(SO4)3Cl.

Terry also had a small group of scorodite / mansfieldite specimens.  Microprobe analysis of these specimens shows laternating compositional changes between the two minerals much like ettringite and sturmanite display from Kuruman.

Grossular
August 20th
Fluorescent Grossular from Afghanistan - Dudley Blauwet had a falt or so of a new find of grossular from Sinzai, Afghanistan.  The general quality of the specimens was poor with lots of internal fracturing leading to partial crystals.  I cherry picked the lot and found only four specimens with the least amount of damage.  Under SW UV light the crystal fluoresce yellow.

Mimetite
August 20th
Chinese Mimetite - Top Gem Minerals had about 20 flats of mimetite from China.  I went through each one to find only eight specimens that were not several dinged up.  The ones that I did find are all quite appealing and very reasonably priced.  These are getting very hard to locate in quality anymore.

Molybdenite
included Quartz
August 20th
Molybdenite Included Quartz from Chile - Terry Szenics had several flats of quartz crystals with molybdenite crystal inclusions.  Better than 95% of these were buffed and polished to better display the moly inside. He did have a dozen or so unpolished specimens and I selected from this group to find 5 good specimens.

Variscite
August 20th
Spherical Variscite - Luiz Menezes had his usual assortment of good Brazilian specimens including a new find of the variscite that the late Carlos Barbosa brought to Tucson a few years ago.  The spherical masses are all crystalline with crystal faces clearly visible.
