Moroccan Minerals

The Sainte-Marie aux Mines Show is a very important show for Moroccan dealers. There are 40 or 50 dealers set selling carved material, fossils and minerals. The quality is generally low and one has to spend a fair amount of time looking at broken or poor quality material to find a few of the "nuggets" that are in the pile. I put in my time and looked at well over 5000 rocks to find these few that I felt were worth the time to pack up and bring back to the States.

I mentioned in the report that there was a lot of vanadinite from Morocco at the show - THERE WAS! I bet from the air Sainte-Marie aux Mines looked red from all of the Mibladen vanadinite that was there. I did find two specimens though that were just too good to pass up! This specimen has bright red crystals that look like stop signs up to 1 cm across. No damage on this specimen! The next specimen will be in the Sainte-Marie aux Mines auction!

I mentioned in the report that one of the Moroccan dealers said that this was a new find of pyromorphite from Touissit, Morocco. These are clearly not pyromorphite but rather vanadinite. The crystals on these specimens are large and there are several that have a nice association with wulfenite. The price was right so I decided to gather up a few and present them here. The color is nothing in comparison to the vanadinite from Mibladen but the crystals are quite large and well formed. All of these specimen were selected from literally hundreds of clunky messed up rubbish. These have either no damage or only the very smallest tolerable level of dings.
