Carrollite

The Gobin brothers, French dealers, brought what has to be the single best showing of new carrollite in one place ever! There were at least 200 top quality specimens available at their booth.  By the end of the show there were very few left! I was quite happy to be there when they opened up and grabbed the pieces below.

The specimen consists of crystalline calcite with 5 sharp and mirror-lustrous crystals of carrollite.  The largest crystal is this 1.3 cm crystal seen in the close up photos.    If desired this specimen could be broken into smaller specimens.

Exceptional group of mirror-lustrous crystals of carrollite.   This cluster extends for 4 cm.  The largest crystal is 1 cm across.

Razor sharp group of mirror-lustrous crystals of carrollite to 1.1 cm across are found on this specimen of calcite.  The quality of the crystals on this specimen are nothing short of eye popping with their complex and bright faces.  These crystals grew into an open vug and as a result have this striking and brilliant luster.

Two mirror-like crystals of carrollite with complex terminations on calcite matrix.  The largest of the crystals on this specimen is 1.1 cm across.

Superb thumbnail specimen of carrollite!  The large crystal in the center of the specimen is 1.1 cm across and looks like it has mirrors for crystal faces.  This is one of the finest thumbnail sized specimens of this species you will ever see!

This free standing specimen of rhombic calcite crystals host these two perfect crystals - one of chalcopyrite and one of carrollite.  The carrollite crystal is 1.1 cm across.  Not much else I can say that the pictures don't already!

A 1.2 cm mirror like crystal of carrollite is set among several smaller crystals on matrix of calcite.  There is a small amount of light abrasion on the specimen that keeps it in the moderate dollar range.

Crystalline calcite hosts over 8 crystals of carrollite.  The largest crystal is 1.2 cm across.  One crystal has a small ding.  The rest are in excellent condition.

2.3 cm crystal of octaheral form carrollite with a small amount of attached calcite matrix.  This is  a superb thumbnail sized specimen of this rare copper, cobalt and nickel bearing sulfide.

1.3 cm damage free crystal of carrollite is set on calcite matrix.  The rough looking top of the crystal is due to uneven crystal growth.  Again, no damage!
