Here is an array of new Rhodochrosite specimens from the Sweet Home Mine.  Collector's Edge, who owns and operates the mine, has not encountered a new pocket in the last three years of operation.  This does not mean that the mine is finished but it is usually a reliable sign that things are winding down.

At the end of April I went to Denver and viewed the entire inventory looking for specimens with a good price to quality value.  Here is the group that I selected. It is not likely that I will be presenting a large supply of these in the future as the supply of these gorgeous specimens continue to dwindle.

I have broken these out in to 3 pages:

Page 1 - Specimens priced from $1500 and up
Page 2 - Specimens priced from $500 to $1500
Page 3 - Specimens priced from $500 and under

I also have two pristine copies of the special 1998 Mineralogical Record issue devoted to this mine.  These are available for $30 + shipping.

SH001 - $325.00
Rhodochrosite on Tetrahedrite
Millenium Pocket
Fluorite Raise

5.5 x 3.7 x 2. 6 cm
This specimen is comprised of gemmy rhodo crystals set on crystalline  tetrahedrite - some of which has been altered to chalcopyrite. The rhodo crystals are glassy and very gemmy.  The prominent crystal on the left is 1.5 cm across of the diagonal.

SH002 - $475.00
Rhodochrosite, Fluorite, Tetrahedrite & Apatite
Steve's Pocket
Fluorite Raise

7.1 x 5.4 x 3.3 cm
This specimen has several gemmy and very lustrous crystals of rhombic rhodochrosite to 1.7 cm across on the diagonal.  There are also numerous crystals of etched fluorite.  The fluorite crystals are cubic with dodecahedral modification but most are so severely etched (naturally) that clear faces are hard to find and distinguish.  There are also many scattered crystals of grayish brown apatite to about 3 mm in length.  This is pretty typical for apatite from this mine.  Under SW UV light the crystals fluoresce bright orangish yellow.

Rhodochrosite & Fluorite
Porcelain Pocket
Fluorite Raise

7 x 5 x 5 cm
This specimen has several gemmy and very lustrous crystals of rhombic rhodochrosite to 1.4 cm across on the diagonal.  There is also a remnant partial crystal of fluorite present.  The largest crystal has a rarely seen m face as a corner modification.

SH007 - $500.00
Rhodochrosite on Quartz
01-04 Pocket
Fluorite Raise

7.5 x 5 x 3.5 cm
This specimen of crystalline quartz hosts a half dozen crystals of rhombic rhodochrosite to 2.1 cm across on the diagonal. Part of the surfaces of the crystals are lightly coated with a thin layer of quartz.  Very little in the way of any damage to the crystals that I can find.  Essentially none.  A lot of rhodo for the buck with this specimen.

Rhodochrosite
Millenium Pocket
Fluorite Raise

4.8 x 3 x 2.2 cm
This specimen has lustrous and very deep ruby red crystals of rhodochrosite to 1.8 cm across on the diagonal. The matirx consists of quartz, galena and tetrahedrite.  This is a very fine miniature sized specimen!

SH015 - $185.00
Rhodochrosite on Quartz
Scott's Pocket
Main Stope Drift

4 x 4.1 x 2.6 cm
This specimen has a 2.1 cm crystal of rhodochrosite set on quartz and sulfide matrix.  The crystal has a very thin layer of quartz on the surface resulting in a dull luster.  There is no damage and the aesthetics are exceptional for the value on this specimen.

Rhodochrosite on Quartz
01-04 Pocket
Fluorite Raise

4.8 x 3.2 x 2.2 cm
This specimen of crystalline quartz hosts a half dozen or so crystals of rhombic rhodochrosite to 2.5 cm across on the diagonal. Part of the surfaces of the crystals are lightly coated with a thin layer of quartz.   A lot of rhodo for the buck with this specimen.

SH017 - $185.00
Fluorite & Rhodochrosite
Raspberry Pocket
Fluorite Raise

6.2 x 5 x 2 cm
This specimen of crystalline quartz and various sulfides (mostly tetrahedrite) hosts numerous dodecahedral crystals of violet colored fluorite and a single 0.5 cm crystal of rhodochrosite.  The fluorite is dodecahedral in form and the largest crystal is 0.8 cm across.  Of interest to me on this specimen is the presence of a spinel law twin fluorite crystal!  I have never seen one of these from the Sweet Home mine until now.  It is featured in one of the close up photos.
