Here is an array of new Rhodochrosite specimens from the Sweet Home Mine.  Collector's Edge, who owns and operates the mine, has not encountered a new pocket in the last three years of operation.  This does not mean that the mine is finished but it is usually a reliable sign that things are winding down.

At the end of April I went to Denver and viewed the entire inventory looking for specimens with a good price to quality value.  Here is the group that I selected.  It is not likely that I will be presenting a large supply of these in the future as the supply of these gorgeous specimens continue to dwindle.

I have broken these out in to 3 pages:

Page 1 - Specimens priced from $1500 and up
Page 2 - Specimens priced from $500 to $1500
Page 3 - Specimens priced from $500 and under

I also have two pristine copies of the special 1998 Mineralogical Record issue devoted to this mine.  These are available for $30 + shipping.

SH012 - $650.00
Rhodochrosite & Quartz
Corner Pocket Area
Watercourse Raise

8.5 x 7 x 4 cm
This specimen has very deep ruby red crystals of rhodochrosite that are also gemmy and lustrous.  The only reason this specimen is not in the $4500 and up range is that most of the crystals have small corner nicks.  Still the color and luster is top of the line for the Sweet Home and not all of the crystals are damaged.  The largest crystal is 2.1 cm across on the diagonal.

Rhodochrosite, Apatite & Fluorite
Steve's Pocket
Fluorite Raise

3.2 x 3.1 x 2.2 cm
This crystal is gem. Period.  The color is top of the line for the Sweet Home mine and it has exceptional luster. There are numerous small 1-2 mm crystals of apatite on two of the crystal faces and there is a 0.5 cm crystal of color zoned fluorite set between the two crystals that comprise this specimen.  The fluorite is cubic with dodecahedral face modifications. No damage!
