Ruby

November 17th
New Find - Rubies from Madagascar -  There was a new find of corundum variety ruby found in Ambahatraso, Hiosy, Madagascar.  Several dealers, almost all Italian, had these at the Munich Show.  I was fortunate to have made arrangements to meet with an Italian collector who had a very nice array of the specimens available at a reasonable cost.

Phenakite

Almandine

Liddcoatite

November 17th
New Find - Elbaite, Phenakite & Garnet from Madagascar -  The same collector that provided the rubies from Madagascar also provided the specimens posted here.  Lots of interesting minerals from one of the mineral hot beds of today!

Realgar

Beryl

November 17th
Chinese Minerals -  I found several specimens worth getting in Munich including a few of the new cinnabar and realgar finds.   Also, I spent an hour unwrapping a large box of tabular beryl specimens at Rene Daulon's booth only to find five cherry picked specimens.  Lastly there is a unique Rhodochrosite/Woframite specimen from the Yao Guang Xian Mine.

Rosasite - Oujela Mine

November 17th
Mexican Minerals -  I found a number of very fine Mexican minerals while at the show and since the latest issue of the Mineralogical Record is dedicated to the Oujela Mine a number of these specimens are nicely tied in.  Of special note are five specimens of rosasite from the Oujela Mine.

Gadolinite-Y

November 17th
Gadolinite-Y -  I was pleased to see an offer of these specimens of gadolinite-Y made available at the show.  They come from the type locality for the species which is Ytterby, Resarö, Sweden.  A number of elements were discovered and described from specimens of gadolinite-Y including: Yttrium, Terbium, Erbium, Ytterbium, Scandium, and Holmium!  Complete crystals from this locality are exceptionally rare as they are always found frozen in a feldspar/biotite schist matrix.   Several of the specimens in this lot are exceptional for the species and locality.  Gadolinite-Y has the chemical formula:Y2FeBe2Si2O10.

Fluorite

November 17th
Indian Fluorite -  There were several dealers from India selling specimens of fluorite along with myriad other zeolite minerals.   This is a small selection of specimens found at the show.

Inesite - South Africa

Fluorite & Apatite
Kazakhstan

Fluorite - Germany

November 13th
Munich Minerals - 2 -  Here is a second array of random minerals from various global localities.

Vivianite - Brazil

November 13th
New Find - Vivianite from Brazil -  These come from the Cigla Conselheiro Mine, Minas Gerais, Brazil - a well known locality for hureaulite. Cailloux-Greoux and Luiz Menzes had specimens of these available.  Luiz' specimens were snatched up quickly by an Italian dealer before anyone else could get at them but thanks to Bill Larson of Pala Internation I was able to get these from Cailloux-Greoux.  Keep in mind that these vivianite specimens are not in the same league as the brilliant specimens are from Bolivia as they all tend to have a somewhat matted luster.  But they are very good for a new locality!

Topaz - DR Congo

November 13th
New Find - Topaz from the DR Congo -  The Gobins brought one of the more interesting new finds to the show - these richly colored specimens of imperial topaz.  They look a lot like specimens from Ouro Preto in Brazil except for tha fact that they have better luster and crystal form.

Rhodochrosite
Kazakhstan

November 13th
Rhodochrosite from Kazakhstan -  Axinite PM had specimens of botryoidal rhodochrosite available at the show. Specimens from this locality have been used for a number years in the production of cabachons.  The color is a deep reddish orange.

Xenotime - Pakistan

November 13th
Xenotime from Pakistan -  There's been a lot of chatter about these xenotime specimens from Pakistan.  Pricing on them is all over the place.  I found a reasonably priced selection of thumbnail sized specimens at the booth of French dealer Francois Lietard.  It did not take me long to scoop all but a few of them up.

Anatase - Norway

November 13th
Anatase from Norway -  German dealer Christian Rewitzer had a nice selection of thumbnail sized Anatase specimens.  Some have matrix attached but most are crystals only.

Guanacoite - Chile

Eudidymite - Malawi

November 11th
New Species - Rare Minerals -  At every show I attend there opportunities to obtain some new and exciting rare mineral species.   I have a dozen from this show now posted.  Two new species included in this group!

Wulfenite & Cerussite

Erythrite

November 11th
Moroccan Minerals -  There are usually some great specimens available from Morocco at a show like this.  I was pleased to see a new find of erythrite brought to the show by the Gobins and also some very fine specimens from the now defunct Toussit Mine.  Mark my words, that mine is going to be very hard to collect in a year or two!

Elbaite & Quartz

November 11th
Minerals from Elba Island -  Prior to the Munich Show I visited with my friend Dr. Alessandro Genazzani in Montova.  Alessandro has been a diligent collector over the years at Elba Island for pegmatite minerals.  Almost all of the minerals presented here were self-collected by Alessandro.  All specimens ordered from this group will be shipped directly to you from Italy.

Sulfur on Aragonite

November 11th
Sulfur from Sicily -  Prior to the Munich Show I visited with my friend Dr. Alessandro Genazzani in Montova.  Alessandro has spent many days in the southern regions of Italy working the Cozzodisi Mine for sulfur and then spending countless hours cleaning the naturally occuring bitumen (oil) off of them.  All of the minerals in this page were self collected by Alessandro.  All specimens ordered from this group will be shipped directly to you from Italy.

Fluorite

November 11th
Fluorite from France -  German dealer Ralf Konkel brought a bunch of these interesting globular fluorite specimens to the Munich Show.  I did not find him until near the end so I am sure that there are better specimens out there somewhere.  These are not too shabby though!

Pezzottaite on Lepidolite

November 11th
Pezzottaite on Matrix -  Pezzottaite has been available almost exclusively as single crystals off matrix.  After the Ste Marie Show the hunt was on to find and make available specimens of pezzottaite on matrix.  I have five here for you to consider.

Kunzite - Afghanistan

Sphalerite - Spain

Vivianite - Bolivia

November 9th
Munich Minerals - 1 -  This link will take you to the first grouping of random minerals found at the Munich Show.

Fluorite - France

November 9th
Fluorite -  French Dealer Alain Martaud had three flats of fluorite that were mined in 1975. The color is a unique one from Fosante having never been found again there.  I was able to select what I thought were the ten best of those available from a find that produced no more than 50 specimens according to Alain.

Tourmaline - Russia

November 9th
Russian Tourmaline - During the first hours of the show I saw a few Russian dealers with fine specimens of tourmaline from the Malkhan Mts in eastern Russia.  I decided to cull out the best specimens I could find and make a special page of them available.  No duds in this group!

Antique Models

November 9th
Antique Wooden Crystal Models -  I met up with a collector on the floor of the show and he offered me 9 sets of these old wooden models.  They were constructed in the late 1800s and were carved in Germany.
