New minerals!
I picked up specimens from an old collection recently and also specimens from the Dr. Paul F. Hoffman Collection. A lot of diversity in this group. Briefly, Paul Hoffman served as the Sturgis Hooper Professor of Geology at Harvard University.  He retired recently and has donated his collection to Harvard.  I was contacted by Dr. Carl Francis last summer to gage interest in offering some of the specimens and I am quite pleased to do so here.  His specimens are clearly identified as such in this update.

2009 Munich Show Report

I was not able to attend the 2009 Munich Show this year but Dr. Knut Eldjarn, a good friend and exceptionally knowledgeable mineral collector, kindly generated a report on what he saw at the show to post on the MineralShows.Com website.

New minerals from California!!

I am happy to have a new large update of specimens from the Benitoite Gem mine available. It has been a while since the last group went up.  I have also got a large quantity of wholesale material available by the flat.   Also, Steve Perry recently went to the annual Searles Lake dig and came away with exceptional specimens of the evaporite mineral sulfohalite.  These are some of the best of this species in terms of color and luster ever recovered from the blow pipes at Searles Lake. To see what is involved in getting the buried minerals at Searles Lake to surface I recommend a visit to this site. It is a miracle that any specimens are found that totally pulverized!

Specimens from the Denver Show

Denver was a surprise this year with lots of great specimens available.  Not much new to the mineral world but good quality stuff!

  August 20th
The East Coast Show was held in West Springfield from August 7 through 10th.  I have prepared a report on what was new there and also have posted about 80 specimens which can be accessed below.  East Coast Show

Barite ps Witherite-England

Cerussite - Morocco
Specimens from the show.  - A baker's dozen group of specimens from around the world including silver, gold, cerussite, powellite and more!

Hutchinsonite & Orpiment
Peru

Hutchinsonite -   Terry "Skip" & Marisa Szenics surprised me with the most hutchinsonite I have ever seen in one place.  Skip said these had been stashed away for years and he recently came across them and decided to bring them to the show.  Hutchinsonite is one of just a handful of mineral species to have thallium in its chemical formula.  Thalliumis also a very toxic substance so should you get one of these specimen please treat it with respect.

Montebrasite
Montebrasite -  Brazilian dealer Luiz Menezes had new specimens of a recent find of montebrasite from Minas Gerais.  He had these at the West Coast Show back in May.  These are so good for the species that it is/was hard to pass them up.

Blue Hemimorphite
& Hydrozincite - Mexico

Mixed minerals from Mexico -   You'll find various specimens primarily from the Ojuela mine in this group.  This blue hemimorphite on hydrozincite is a very rare color from the Ojuela!

Pyromorphite & Wulfenite
Massachusetts

Chalcocite - Connecticut
Minerals from the Northeast USA -  Two choice Loudville, Massachusetts and one Bristol, Connecticut specimen top this group from the northeast US.

Silver & Copper - Michigan

Wulfenite - Arizona
Various minerals from the USA -  More minerals from areas in the United States other than the Northeast.  Check out the large silver/copper from the Centennial mine in Michigan!

Szenicsite - Chile
Szenicite & Powellite from Chile - Skip & Marisa Szenics had yet another suprise with a decent group of szenicsite specimens from the type and only locality.  I spent some time talking with Skip and he said all of the szenicsite that has and ever will be came from a pocket about 1 x 1 x 1 meter in size.  He says his supply of specimens is dwindling and the day is coming when it will be nearly impossible to get any of this very rare molybdenum and copper bearing mineral.

Rheniite - Russia
Rheniite from Russia - Russian dealer Dmitriy Belakovsky usually has the standard fare from Russian localities such as Dal'Negorsk and others.  When I saw the specimens of Rheniite I simply told him to box them all up.  This is only one of two minerals to naturally contain the rare element rhenium.  The other mineral tarkianite is restricted to micro sized grains encased in sulfide minerals.  You have to be a total mineral junky to care about things like that... anyway, here is a half dozen specimens of this exceedingly rare rhenium sulfide.

Struverite - Madagascar
New Find - Rutile var. Struverite from Madagascar - Reno, Nevada dealer Scott Werschky picked up a nine specimen lot of a new find of rutile var Struverite while at the Sainte Marie show this past summer.  He saved them for me to offer here.  Struverite has a well defined chemical formula wildly different than rutile and it was originally described as a new species and accredited.  Rutile is TiO2. Struverite is: Fe(Nb,Ta)2·4TiO2 -(Ti,Ta,Fe)O . Yeah, that looks like rutile to me....  What about you?   Anyway, there is a lot of niobium and tantalum in these..."rutile"...specimens.

It's been over 10 years since I went online!

It has been just about 10.5 years since I went online and I have jotted down the detailed history of the Trinity Mineral Company website evolution in this brief blog. You won't find any minerals to buy here but you will get a better understanding of how things all came to be for me and several other people I am sure you're familiar with.

Mineralbooks.com

Looking for missing issues to your collection of the Mineralogical Record? I recently came into a large supply of back issues of the Mineralogical Record and have finally put this page together to make them available.  I have multiples of many of the issues though a number of them are represented by one or two copies only.  Click the buttons by year to see available issues.  I am using the data base system I use for minerals on the MineralShows.com, Tsumeb.comandTrinityMinerals.com websites to manage this inventory.

The price of each back issue is posted with the image of the cover and primary contents.  Shipping (priority mail) costs are $5 per issue for domestic addresses and $8-10 (global priority) for foreign destinations per issue.

Thanks again for looking into Trinity Mineral Company as a source for additions to your mineral collection!
