Costa Mesa (West Coast Show) New Minerals I recently visited the West Coast Show in Costa Mesa, California. This is Marty Zinn Expositions Show. Not a great new to report but I have prepared a short report on what was there and have updated the site with about 50 new specimens. The
first group of specimens are from the recent find of prismatic crystals
of wulfenite from the Ojuela Mine in Mexico. These were first seen at the
2008 Tucson Show. The prices seem to have moderated considerably with Don
& Gloria Olson and Mineral Search having good specimens available at
reasonable pricing levels.
Next
are a group of uvite specimens from Brazil. Luiz Menezes had some distinctly
pleochroic specimens available with magnesite and one specimen of uvite
with dolomite.
Brazilian dealer Luis
Menezes also had some very fine crystals of Montebrasite from the Telirio
mine in Minas Gerais. The montebrasite specimens were predominantly available
as single crystals with vitreous luster and uniform pale yellow color.
Montebrasite is closely related to amblygonite differing only in the replacement
of aluminum (mont.) versus sodium (amblyg.).
I found several interesting
Mexican minerals at the show.
Last
and far from least is a group of 17 specimens from various global localities
obtained at the show. Lots of interesting things in this group!

New Minerals I
have updated the site with about 70 new specimens - all material recently
obtained and some of it was presented as new finds at the 2008 Tucson Show.
First up is a hoard of some oddly crystallized fluorite from the Erongo
Mountains in Namibia. At first glance they appear to be monoclinic
in form but in fact are exaggerated spinel law twins. The internal
color zoning clearly shows how complex the crystal forms are on these.
Next
are a group of gold specimens from verying localities. I have two
specimens which have embedded YouTube videos. In particular there
is a large Diltz mine specimen of just under 5 troy ounces. This
is very large for this mine and the fact that it is crystallized is equally
impressive. Specimens from Nevada, California and Venezuela comprise
this group.
At
Tucson Scott Werschky had an eye opening array of new shattuckite specimens
from Kandesei, Koakoveld
Last
and far from least is a group of 27 specimens from various global localities.
Copper, tourmalines, hamberigites, ilmenite, beryl and much more are here.

Fluorite from the Rogerley Mine and Post-Tucson Show update I
have photographed the remaining Rogerley Mine fluorite specimens I obtained
from Jesse Fisher after the Tucson Show was finished. There are a
few specimens from the Jewel Box pocket which produced the best crystals
yet found from this mine. All are specimens found during the 2007
collecting season. I have also placed 31 specimens obtained at the
Tucson show that are all a bit above average. Of interest to rare
species collectors are some examples of the rare manganese beryllium phosphate
- vayrynenite. I have three specimens of gem quality crystals from
Pakistan. There are also numerous other specimens from Pakistan and
Afghanistan.

It's been over 10 years since I went online! It has been just about 10.5 years since I went online and I have jotted down the detailed history of the Trinity Mineral Company website evolution in this brief blog. You won't find any minerals to buy here but you will get a better understanding of how things all came to be for me and several other people I am sure you're familiar with. |

Mineralbooks.com Update Looking for missing issues to your collection of the Mineralogical Record? I recently came into a large supply of back issues of the Mineralogical Record and have finally put this page together to make them available. I have multiples of many of the issues though a number of them are represented by one or two copies only. Click the buttons by year to see available issues. I am using the data base system I use for minerals on the MineralShows.com, Tsumeb.comandTrinityMinerals.com websites to manage this inventory. The price of each back
issue is posted with the image of the cover and primary contents.
Shipping (priority mail) costs are $5 per issue for domestic addresses
and $8-10 (global priority) for foreign destinations per issue.
